Course Title: Chiropractic Care for the Pediatric Population

Instructor: Dr. Liz Anderson-Peacock BSc., D.C., DICCP

Course Objective: To improve the chiropractic care delivered to the pediatric patient.      3.5 hours     

Statement of Purpose: Chiropractors have traditionally seen children. Ensuring a detailed history and thorough clinical evaluation helps inform a patient centered clinical rationale for care. We will be reviewing how to adjust, when or when not to adjust and how to assess outcomes.

Overview of Course: a detailed review of obtaining a history, a robust assessment, diagnosis and technique considerations in the care of the young child patient.

Clinical Sciences

Introduction & Obtaining a complete history:  1 hour            

Review nuances and ideas to expand the perspective of health for parents. To include questions on systems review, development, growth, lifestyle and current health status along with salutogenic expression of health. Goal is to be able to formulate an initial impression to inform the assessment.

Examination and Diagnosis : 1.5 hours

Slides to directly relate to subject matter covered in this hour                                         Delivering a robust Assessment/Evaluation. How perform a basic pediatric examination in an organized way to arrive at a diagnosis. We will cover observation, inspection, palpation, tests for growth and development, milestones, orthopedic, neurological and chiropractic specific tests.

 Safety and Adjustive technique: 1 hour

Covering red flags in practice necessitating immediate referral or co-care.    Introduction on how to modify adjustment techniques to suit the young child.  Review of the rationale for the adjustment, the depth of force to use, how to perform the adjustment and modified adjustment set-up for the classroom and attendee setting.

Dr. Liz Anderson-Peacock BSc., DC, received her Diplomate (DICCP -USA) in pediatrics in 1996 and has been a “go to” chiropractor for not just her community but for colleagues around the world. She has been teaching and speaking both professionally, intraprofessionally and publicly on many stages and academic panels on chiropractic and pediatrics. She has published in JCCA, JCCP and JVSR. Also a contributor to many magazines like DCPI, Dynamic Chiropractic, 33 Principles, Canadian Chiropractor, and Illuminate. Dr. Liz has also served her profession through volunteering on the Canadian Chiropractic Examining Board, as a peer assessor and expert opinion. She has also served in an elected position on the College of Chiropractors of Ontario. Dr. Liz a dynamic speaker and teacher, has helped thousands of chiropractors improve their performance in practice. She loves experiencing the magical, is happily married with 4 grandchildren. Winner of the Canadian Chiropractor of the Year in 1998 from the Can Chiro magazine, and the OCA’s Heart and Hand award in 2005.
