David H. Spear, Ph.D., DC

David received his Bachelor of Arts degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. He later earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry from UCLA. In the course of his graduate studies, David patented a novel technique for introducing DNA into cells; this procedure is now licensed to Stratagene, a biotechnology company. Although research was intellectually stimulating, David eventually found it to be lacking in heart and purpose. After much soul searching and a profound personal healing experience with chiropractic care, David was inspired to enroll at Life Chiropractic College West where the college invited him to join the faculty. David served as assistant professor of biochemistry at LCCW, while pursuing his Doctorate of Chiropractic. This was the perfect combination of science and heart. David graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2000.

Dr. MacDonald began practicing in Eugene, Oregon, for over 20 years. He came to the study of chiropractic by way of his undergraduate degree in kinesiology, receiving his Bachelor of Science from the University of Ontario, Canada, in 1992. He then began working in a chiropractic office designing and implementing patient rehabilitation programs. After nine months he was hired onto a larger firm working as a kinesiologist alongside a physiotherapist, occupational therapist, physician, and clinical caseworker. While there, he started his own company for hydrotherapy, providing a less strenuous alternative to land-based exercises by conducting them in water. Wanting to be able to offer more resources to patients, Dr. MacDonald decided to go into the chiropractic profession. He graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1999. Dr. MacDonald moved to Eugene shortly thereafter and opened a practice within the next year.

In his spare time, Dr. MacDonald volunteers for the Eugene Generals Junior A Hockey Club as the Head Athletic Trainer and one of the team’s medical staff. He enjoys playing hockey himself and golf when he can. He and his wife have five children and they reside in Eugene.
