Voice artificial intelligence (Voice AI) is rapidly transforming how healthcare practices manage patient communication, administrative workflows, and documentation. As patient expectations shift toward faster, more accessible service—and operational pressures such as staffing shortages, rising labor costs, and declining reimbursement increase—clinics are seeking scalable solutions to improve efficiency without compromising care.
This course provides a practical, evidence-informed overview of Voice AI technologies and their role in modern healthcare settings. Participants will gain a clear understanding of how Voice AI systems function at a high level, including core components such as speech-to-text, language models, and text-to-speech systems.
Emphasis is placed on real-world clinical applications, including appointment scheduling, patient communication, intake processes, reactivation workflows, and documentation support. The course also addresses current limitations and appropriate boundaries for use within clinical environments.
A significant portion of the session is dedicated to HIPAA compliance and risk management. Participants will explore how voice data is captured, processed, transmitted, and stored, along with the regulatory requirements governing Protected Health Information (PHI). Special attention will be given to Business Associate Agreements (BAAs), vendor evaluation, data handling practices, and the risks associated with non-compliant AI tools.
By the conclusion of this course, attendees will have a practical framework for evaluating Voice AI solutions, understanding where compliance risks arise, and implementing these technologies responsibly within their own practices.
